The proposal goes through the wali
The guardian concludes the contract on the woman's behalf. This is not a mark of distrust towards her: it is a protection, and a condition of validity.
In practice this means the process is presented to the guardian early, and not once attachment has already set in. A wali informed at the last moment is not an involved wali.
The legislated glance, and its limit
Looking at the woman one intends to marry is encouraged, because it strengthens the intention. This permission has a framework, and what the texts aim at first is that there be no seclusion: they name the presence of her father, her brother, her mother or other people. The framework chosen here is narrower: a serious proposal, and the presence of the guardian or a mahram.
It does not authorise a photo gallery browsed by strangers. That is the entire reason there are no photos on this platform.
No khalwa, no drawn-out conversation
Seclusion between a man and a woman who are not married is forbidden, and unmonitored private messaging is its most ordinary modern form.
The remedy chosen here is simple and verifiable: the wali gets access from the first message, and human moderation comes before delivery.
The lightened dowry, as Sunnah
Lightening the dowry is not a compromise with the religion: it is following it. The legislation fixed no amount and leaves people to what they agree on, little or much; what it encourages is to reduce and to make it easy, so as to encourage marriage and the chastity of men and women.
The saying reported to that effect is well known: the best of dowries is the lightest. What is set aside is overload, because it can keep people from marrying.

Frequently asked questions
Can a woman marry without her guardian?
No. A contract concluded without a wali is declared void according to the majority of the people of knowledge. Where the guardian is absent, unreachable or refuses without valid grounds, the matter is settled with people of knowledge, not by going without him.
Does a convert have a wali?
Yes. Failing a Muslim guardian in her family, guardianship falls to the Muslim authority. Who exercises it in practice is settled with people of knowledge, most often with the mosque or the centre that follows her.
Can you see the person before marriage?
